Video Description
Tianjin, China
Frances travels to Tianjin, a northern city in China, and explores the history of foreign influence in China. After the Opium Wars in China (mid to late 1800s), many western powers were officially granted concessions, small self-governed neighborhoods, in many Chinese cities similar to Tianjin. Centuries later, these foreign spheres of influence still remain. As Frances walks through the French Concession, the contrast between the Eastern and Western identity is strongly embodied through the various forms of architecture.
